We must all already know at this point that I love a slow-burn paranormal book. So of course, this automatically wins for me. Add the academy setting into the mix? That’s just a cherry on top of an already fantasic book.
The premise of the storyline was incredibly unique in my eyes, and it was super well-executed. I liked that the readers weren’t given all of the answers in the first book, and the plot didn’t feel rushed or overly incomplete. I am very interested on seeing how the rest of the story plays out in the remainder of the series.
I feel like academy-setting books can go one way or another. It’s either all one species or a mix. This particular one was the latter and it absolutely worked out well. I loved seeing the divide, both physical and mental among the groups and how it changed as time passed (for better and worse). I think it added a healthy dose realism to the story, and allowed for more complexities to surface regarding the interactions between different groups. I would have loved for the MMC’s and secondary characters to have a little more substinance, but there is plenty of time for that. The spice was there, but of course we’ll have to be patient for it grow. I think honestly the best way to put this review is that Fated for Flames without a double gives us a look into a a remarkable world that is set up for a strong continuation of the mystery that is Evelyn.
Okay but the cliffhanger though? I don’t even want to talk about it in fear I’ll say too much. But what I can say is WOW??
