Female assassins, plots against the kingdom, and magic? You better believe I’m in.
I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. The beginning history was extremely helpful to read prior to the plot and helped lay out very solid groundwork for the rest of the story. Even better, I found myself feeling excited before even meeting any of the characters. There is a ton of powerful female representation, and I am so here for it!!! Each sister was unique in her own way and it was wonderful to watch them work off each other’s strengths, yet still their own person and still mesh incredibly well with one another. I even loved the MMC’s and thought their personalities were the perfect addition to the story. There is a lot of depth to everyone as well as some pretty astonishing character development that takes place.
There are touches of modernity but overall, it still gives off strong fantasy vibes. The magic element is easy to understand and very intriguing given how it’s used and the societal power it brings to its users depending on which type you are. There are some emotionally hard themes discussed in the book (not triggering but heartfelt) that I thought were done exceptionally well. There is a lot of heart and soul in this book, it’s truly not just fights and spice.
Speaking of spice….. I needed more. Point blank. I loved all we got but it had me itching for more. I’m hopeful that since this is only book 1 we’ll have a chance to see not only Fay but the other sisters explore that more.
